Sphero SPRK+ Power Pack
Custom Case Need: A case to transport, store, and charge a set of SPRK+ robots. This packaged set is used by educators, as the SPRK+ was an
educational robot used to instruct on computer programming. Aside from the functional requirements, the case needed to fit well with the Sphero and SPRK+ brand.
Case solution: The Sentinel 1220-7 case was the perfect base model – it’s extremely durable and came standard with wheels and an extension
handle for easy transport. We molded the case in custom Sphero blue. A metal logo plate was added to the case lid to attractively demonstrate the brand. With the case model set, our engineers turned to the tricky task of designing the inside of the case to both protect the robots and accessories and also accommodate all the electrical and charging components. We tooled up for a customer thermoformed tray to hold the chargers and robots and create room beneath for the electronics and fan cooling system. A custom foam piece was designed for the lid to hold the robots and accessories securely in place during transport.
The solution was a perfect marriage of form and function. Bill Cullen, Education Product Manager at Sphero, agreed, explaining that “Gemstar really brought our product to life. We leaned on them for expertise in the design, process and material considerations that we did not have experience with. The project team went above and beyond.”
